Emergency Shutdown Panel

Emergency shutdown system is an important safety equipment to protect the hydrocarbon lines during emergency situation. Emergency shutdown panel or ESD panels are being used for quick closure of valves when a pipe got leaked, broken, fire, or some other unexpected emergency. The ESD panel allows a safety valve to be closed from remote station or panel console. It is designed to minimize the consequences of emergency situations and prevent the outbreak of fire in hydrocarbon escape areas or other areas which may be hazardous.

ESD panel consists of multiple components such as hydraulically driven pumps, strainer, valves, hydraulic oil tank, instruments, regulators, push buttons, etc., It is constructed using stainless steel material suitable for
both outdoor and indoor installations. It can be completely designed and supplied inline with customer specific requirements.

FAQ

During an emergency, the ESD panel:

  • triggers a shutdown signal (manual or automatic)
  • supplies hydraulic/pneumatic power to the actuator
  • closes the ESD valve within a set time
  • isolates the hydrocarbon line and prevents escalation

This fast response helps stop the leak source and avoids dangerous ignition events.

Immediate shutdown means the panel can close the ESD valve within a preset time to stop hydrocarbon release quickly. Quick closure is essential in:

  • pipeline rupture
  • fire scenarios
  • high-risk well testing operations
  • emergency field shutdown events

Yes. Petronash ESD panels support remote activation from:

  • remote station
  • panel console
  • control room / field operator station

Remote shutdown reduces risk to personnel by allowing safe operation without approaching hazardous zones.

Fail-safe means the shutdown action occurs automatically when:

  • control power is lost
  • supply pressure drops
  • emergency signal is triggered
  • fire conditions are detected

This ensures the valve closes under unsafe conditions, improving operational safety and compliance.

Petronash ESD panels can be designed using:

  • hydraulic power
  • pneumatic power
  • electrically operated option (available)

Selection depends on site conditions, available utilities, valve actuator type, and project safety philosophy.

A fusible loop is a fire safety element that melts at high temperature. During a fire:

  • fusible loop activates shutdown logic automatically
  • ESD valve closes quickly
  • hydrocarbon release and fire escalation are minimized

It is a critical feature for hydrocarbon escape areas and hazardous installations.

A standard ESD panel consists of:

  • hydraulic driven pumps
  • strainers and filters
  • valves and regulators
  • hydraulic oil tank
  • instruments (pressure gauges/transmitters, etc.)
  • push buttons (ESD pushbutton, reset, etc.)
  • control logic accessories and fittings

Petronash panels are built for robust field performance and ease of operation.

Petronash ESD panels can be designed with:

Hydraulic Pressure: 3,000 to 10,000 PSI (higher pressures optional)
Pneumatic Pressure: 100 to 200 PSI (for actuator operation)

This allows compatibility across well testing valves, pipeline valves, and platform shutdown systems.

Petronash ESD panels are designed for typical field conditions:
Operating temperature: 10°F to 130°F (0°C to 55°C)

Additional customization can be provided for specific environmental requirements.

Petronash ESD panels are offered with:
hydraulic tank capacity starting from 20 liters
and can be customized based on:

  • number of actuations required
  • actuator volume
  • operating pressure
  • site shutdown philosophy

Tank sizing is a key part of safety system reliability.

Yes. Petronash ESD panels can be designed for hazardous environments including:
Class 1 Div. 1, Groups C and D

This makes them suitable for high-risk oilfield environments, hydrocarbon handling areas, and field well testing operations.

Petronash ESD panels are engineered for critical safety, offering:

  • fast ESD valve closure within set time
  • fail-safe and remote activation capability
  • hydraulic/pneumatic/electric operation options
  • fusible loop for fire-triggered shutdown
  • stainless steel construction for indoor/outdoor durability
  • customizable configurations as per customer shutdown philosophy

Yes. Petronash provides customized design to match field requirements including:

  • connection compatibility (hammer union, hub, threaded)
  • actuator type and operating pressure
  • control logic and pushbutton station arrangement
  • tank capacity and pump selection

This ensures smooth integration at site with minimal modification work.

Petronash ESD panels are widely used in:

  • Well testing & production
  • Frac & completion work
  • Pipeline protection
  • Platform shutdown systems
  • Hydrocarbon escape areas requiring reliable shutdown safety

These panels play a key role in preventing fire escalation and minimizing emergency consequences.
