Diaphragm Accumulator

Diaphragm Accumulator is a hydro-pneumatic accumulator for storage of hydraulic liquid under nitrogen pressure. Diaphragm accumulator consists of a fluid and gas section with the flexible diaphragm as a separation element and ensuring that pressure on gas side and hydraulic fluid side is always equal. The top and bottom portions of the accumulator are welded to contain the diaphragm permanently inside in it. The diaphragm contains an insert into the base of the diaphragm to prevent its extrusion through the hole of the bottom portion.

FAQ

Diaphragm accumulators are commonly used in:

  • compact hydraulic power packs
  • mobile hydraulics and industrial machines
  • pressure stabilization in hydraulic circuits
  • pulsation dampening in pipelines
  • shock absorption in valve operations
  • emergency pressure support for short duration requirements

They are preferred where quick response + compact size are key priorities.

Both are gas-charged accumulators, but the construction differs:

  • Diaphragm accumulator: compact, light weight, very quick response, sealed construction (non-repairable), used for small volumes
  • Bladder accumulator: larger capacity, repairable designs available (like top repairable), suitable for wider volume ranges

Diaphragm accumulators are best suited for low volume, fast response systems.

Because the diaphragm is light and flexible, it reacts instantly to system pressure changes. This provides:

  • very fast fluid discharge
  • excellent pulsation damping
  • highly responsive shock absorption

That is why diaphragm accumulators are widely used in circuits requiring rapid pressure compensation.

Petronash diaphragm accumulators are available in compact capacity ranges:
0.16L, 0.32L, 0.50L, 0.75L, 1L, 1.4L & 2L

These sizes cover most applications where small stored volumes are enough for pressure stability and surge protection.

Petronash diaphragm accumulators support:
Operating Pressure: up to 250 bar(g)

This makes them suitable for multiple industrial hydraulic applications where pressure storage and shock absorption are required without large volume needs.

Petronash diaphragm accumulator operating temperature range:
-10°C to 85°C

This range fits typical industrial and moderate climate conditions, especially for compact hydraulic units and pressure control systems.

Diaphragm accumulators are manufactured with the top and bottom portions welded permanently to contain the diaphragm inside. This ensures:

  • compact, sealed construction
  • lower manufacturing cost
  • high safety integrity
  • minimal maintenance requirements

However, since it is sealed, it is considered a non-repairable construction and replacement is preferred after end-of-life.

The diaphragm includes an insert at its base to prevent extrusion of the diaphragm material through the bottom port opening. This improves:

  • diaphragm life
  • safety during high-pressure operation
  • resistance against tearing or deformation

This is a critical internal feature for long-term performance.

Petronash diaphragm accumulators are offered with:
Fluid port sizes: 1/2”, 3/4” and other sizes available on request.

This makes integration easy with standard hydraulic tubing, fittings, and manifolds.

Petronash offers multiple shell materials based on operating environment:

Shell material options

  • CS (Carbon Steel)
  • LTCS (Low Temperature Carbon Steel)
  • SS (Stainless Steel)
  • other materials on request

Diaphragm material options

  • NBR (standard)
  • other materials on request

Material selection can be customized to match corrosion resistance, temperature requirements, and fluid compatibility.

Yes. Diaphragm accumulators are widely chosen because:

  • compact and lightweight
  • low-cost sealed design
  • excellent quick response
  • minimal maintenance
  • effective pressure and shock absorption

For systems requiring small storage volumes with high responsiveness, this is one of the most economical and reliable choices.

Petronash Engineering diaphragm accumulators are designed for:

  • compact and high-response hydraulic applications
  • PED-compliant engineering (2014/68/EU directive)
  • reliable construction using suitable diaphragm protection design
  • customer flexibility in materials and port sizes

We focus on safety, performance, and long-term operational reliability.

Yes. Petronash provides both standard and customized options, including:

  • shell material upgrades (LTCS / SS / special grades)
  • custom port sizes and hydraulic connections
  • suitability improvements for different fluid types and environments

This ensures compatibility with various industrial and oil & gas hydraulic packages.

Absolutely. Petronash can supply diaphragm accumulators:

  • as standalone units, or
  • as part of complete hydraulic assemblies such as hydraulic power packs and control packages

This ensures perfect matching with system pressure, volume requirement, and compliance needs.
